good

nice jaw
this weekend didnt really turn out the way anyone expected, but dang if it wasnt good. friday the girls and i ate dinner on the floor in the kitchen out of my bowl. do you find that your kids will eat just about anything if it is coming from your plate? mine do. espescially if you are sitting on the floor. i have no answers for this. after the communal dinner we packed it up and went to the park to stroll around. loose park is my favorite park in the city. i wish i would have had my camera friday so i could show you some pictures. i saw a mama duck with about twelve brown fuzzy ducklings people! i nearly fell over. then i called david on the cell phone and asked him for the millionth time if i could order a camera. not yet. grr. such a smart man.

anyway, so after the park the girls went to bed and i simultaneously watched a sappy movie on tv and organized my flickr photos. after that i spent some sorely needed time with my tweezers, file and razor in the bathroom. wow. time well spent i would say. david and eliot's camping trip was cut a day short because this weekend of all weekends was some horse ride benefit and after spending most of the evening and night listening to trailers rumble into the campgrounds, he thought it best not to go for night two. they did have fun though, smores and hiking and all that. plus we managed to work the change of plans to our benefit. sent eliot to "camp" in the backyard of a friends house, got a sitter for the girls and went out for a night on the town to celebrate a friends birthday. you know, i havent had to be social (laugh, tell stories and joke around) with new people in a long long time. i thought i might be a little rusty, but after some italian food in my belly and the promise of ice cream to come, i settled right in. too bad i didnt get a chance to tell any of my nightmare hillbillie stories, those always get people going. plus i love to use as many accents as possible while telling stories. thank goodness my mother is colombian.

i also wanted to tell you that i saw the funniest movie ever saturday night. hot fuzz. oh my gosh. i think you will agree with me too if you find most of the following statements to be true:
1. you love simon pegg
2. you have seen the bbc show "spaced"
3. you have seen shaun of the dead
4. you liked #2 and #3 above
5. you have a general love for all things british
6. including british humor

if you agree with 50% of the above statements, then hot fuzz is a movie for you. so frickin' funny.

I just added the movie to our queue...I, myself am unable to pass up good british humor. Plus we need to lighten up our gueue anyway, too many good but tense movie keep showing up.

Sounds like your weekend turned out really nice, it can go either way when Peter comes home a day early like that. : ) And as for kids eating anything off your plate, I've found that kids will eat anything off the floor. I used to joke that if they didn't eat a least a bit of the veggies on their plate, I was going to toss it on the floor, sure to improve the flavor.

relative to my weekend, yours sounds like some kind of good good dream. you know, minus all the shaving. i feel like that movie is going to be paul's new favourite.

Hi Hannah,
I have recently discovered your blog while visiting Alicia Paulson's and realized you are from my area. I loved the photo and story of your mom's bravery. I can relate, although not to such an extreme. I moved to the Midwest from California to marry my husband, having no one here but he and his family. Talk about homesick and I even spoke English. So when your mom said you saved her life, I understood. I noticed the quilt you had on flickr and wondered if you had learned to hand quilt in a group? I meet with a rug hooking group at the Plaza Library on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and would like to learn how to quilt by pros rather than try and teach myself. If you know of a group I'd love to come visit. Thank you, Laney lbriggs@Presentation-Parish.org

weekend already

weekend already
friday, how did you get here so soon? eliot and david are going camping this weekend, which leaves me at home with the girls. in my mind this will be an idyllic rest. i have a feeling this might not be so. ah well. the sun has been shinning and the windows are open so really life is good. i am cameraless again and feeling twitchy about it. spending lots of time reading camera reviews online and making david nervous. i have also been thinking about my sewing machine lately and reacquainting myself with it. wouldn't that be something?

anyway, thought i would pop in to say hello and have a good weekend to you all. did you have a good week? i hope so.

this is swimmy. actually this is swimmy II, the first swimmy was found on the floor one morning as a dried up piece of beta jerky after collette scooped him out of his bowl some time in the night. poor swimmy. swimmy II lives up high on a bookshelf now. he is much safer. so far swimmy II is our only pet, but eliot has taken to asking for a dog lately. i have been able to hold him off with the "our house is too small for five people, we cant have a dog too, maybe someday when we get a bigger house" excuse. i wonder how long that will last?

thank you julie for this week of color, it has been fun to look around the house and see what everyone else has shared. have a great weekend all. i heard the forecast on the radio say that kc is supposed to get flurries and slushy snow tonight. stupid. just stupid. i wish i was sitting here sharing a cup of tea with tracy. someday t?

if you guys get really desperate you could always pitch your own reality series...

family of five in cute two bedroom, gets custody of fun-loving but mischievous hound dog somewhere in middle america where it just won't stop snowing.

there's sex (presumably), death and carnage (clearly, just ask swimmy), and loads of playful banter.

Swimmy II has a beautiful tail! My friend's daughter's goldfish died one day and they managed to replace it without their daughter realising - even though it was a completely different colour!!

I hope the snow isn't too bad. We are hoping that the sea haar disappears here so we have sun - it's not usual for it to be 68 degrees in Scotland in April and we are looking forward to a picnic at Elcho Castle!! Hope the fog disappears!!

upright again

new golas
thank you for all the sympathy pains, i feel much less sheepish about the whole thing. walking normally this last week and enjoying life without thinking about my lower back. but like getting sick on a certain food (shepherds pie and cherry limeade, bleck...) i think i will now have a lingering dread in the back of my mind when any sort of physical exertion of the back variety is called for. ah age. you devil you.

things going on in my head these days. the weather? again with the menopausal stuff, 80 one day and 40 the next. what the freak?? my lilacs were starting to bloom, and if they get all mushy and die because of the freeze, kansas city mark my words, i will never, ever forgive you. you are on the list. watch out. stupid city...

easter fast approaching, we will be spending time with david's parents. which means in my lazy parenting mind, grandma is in charge of all things easter related. the eggs, the baskets, the hunt. all i have to do is put them in cute clothes and take a few pictures. sweet. thank you grandma! still spending lots of time in the kitchen. thanks to this sweet girl, we are hooked on this crazy good and easy cake. aren't they cute? make it right now. i mean it. recently and now forever hooked on the sartorialist. who doesnt love to look at people in cool clothes on the streets of fashionable cities? i dont know who. and lastly a boon to my rusty spanish skills, i have been reading we love crafts mag. so good for me because while i have stacks and stacks of spanish books on my shelves, i dont pick them up. give me arts and crafts in spanish? i'll take it. thank you very much.

oh and in case you all are wondering, the shoes? habitat of course. it is such hard work supporting friends. really takes so much out of me....

a word of caution

to myself of course. you are not as young as you think you are. let me phrase it more clearly, your body is not as young as you think it is. friends, i have a confession. i hurt myself crafting. not in the traditional sense, like jabbing myself with a needle or slicing my finger with a rotary blade (both of which i already have first hand experience with), but in a more humbling way. let me set the scene. two weeks ago, friday night, i had stuffed all three children into their box, uh i mean room, and was ready to work on the shirts for david. by the way, printing on the freezer paper was a breeze and such a time saver. so, there i was in the living room with my cutting mat and various sharp tools laid out. david was assigned the task of cutting out the numbers for the backs of the shirts (lots of straight lines) while i had before me six logos to cut. i sat down on the floor cross legged, and proceeded to hunch over the cutting mat and the first logo in front of me. can you see where this is going? david even asked me with a heavy dose of doubt in his voice, "you aren't going to sit at the table?". no i scoffed. it is easier this way, and besides the light is better over here. i am fine. i do this all the time. sha.

after about an hour of minute cuts that had me through oh, maybe four logos i decided to take a break. my brain sent the necessary signals to my back muscles to sit up, but nothing happened. slowly, ever so slowly my eyes widen in shock as i realized that i was stuck. my back was locked up. oh lord. i gritted my teeth and forced myself up, groaning like an 84 year old lady (no offense 84 year old ladies) only to find that my knees had locked up as well and i couldnt straighten those either. what the freak??? gritting my teeth some more, moaning some more, i forced my legs to uncross and managed by sheer stubbornness to hobble up from the ground and over to the couch. to sit and reel in disbelief at my condition. seriously, i felt like an 84 year old lady. after some guffaws and taunting, and i told you so's from david, and after a prescription strength 500mg naproxen sodium left over from post labor and delivery of collette (!!??) i felt a little better. at least good enough to finish the last two logos and hobble to bed to sleep it off. was it gone in the morning? no. was it gone the next day? sadly no. do i have a problem? yes. exercise and yoga needed stat. because people, i am only 30.83333 repeating years old. i shouldnt have these problems. i drink vitamin D whole milk, so i know my bones are good. but dang it if i havent done a lick of exercise in three years. crap. so yes, i will start treating my body more gingerly. and yes, i will drag my yoga mat out and get started. uh. once i stop walking around with my hand in the small of my back. jello on lettuce anyone?
