still rockin' and rollin'
he's got the beat.
oh, what did you say mom? go crazy? ok. yeah, just like that. nice work son.
Well, at least you got them out and you didn't have to poke their breakfast through the little doorknob hole...
I am only laughing at this situation (which is not funny at all when happening) is that my son and his friend got locked in a bathroom not too long ago. They freaked at first but finally calmed down after time had elapsed and through us giving them instructions on how to unlock the door... they got out. Old houses have such cool knobs but so not child friendly. Half of ours stick and our son yells at us to GET HIM OUT. Glad everything ended well. Maybe tonight will be better for sewing. (I've been saying that for a week now - argh!)
a morning smile. thank you! and - "wow, you are such a good mom. i cant believe you arent freaking out right now".!!
i loved getting the call last night. my first thought was - how'd you even know they were locked in - they should've been asleep. but i immediately thought of collette, and understood. :)
glad it all worked out.
The sound of Collette jibber jabbering away is much too cute. . .and the sleepwalking Eliot, the waking Arlo. . .this all equates to a funny, funny sitcom! Maybe David can make this into a script too?!
Wow! Good for you not freaking out! I would be freaking out. So Collette won't be playing with the locks again, will she?
Oh no! That happened to me once when Buddy was about 2 and I totally freaked out (I considered calling the fire department), which of course made him freak out as well. Good for you for remaining so calm.
um-gosh. I feel so bad for laughing so hard at this and reading it aloud to pete. . glad it all worked out and that no windows had to be broken-
I actually know someone who took the doorknob off her daughter's door, the inside only, ON PURPOSE-to keep her from getting up too much. . freaky! (sad but true)
Oh Hannah! You made me laugh so hard! And yes, you are an AWESOME mom, not panicking and all!
hilariuos....i would've freaked out.
I want to testify to the calmness that is Hannah in these situations! I was amazed. You forgot to include that right after we got the door opened that sweet little girl shut it AGAIN...but fortunately we already had the other door unlocked! This is for sure my new favorite memory with the Huffmans.
Hannah,
I am so glad that it was you and not me. Wouldn't that be awesome if you had a sitter that night and you came home to this situation. Oh, man, I would would run home crying if that happend to me. hee hee. Great story, you are wonderful at writing!!
kids and locks don't mix well with us either. Glad all is safe. And, yes, nutella always makes everything better.
Too funny! Have some Nutella to congratulate yourself when you get your sewing done, too. That's the beauty of Nutella -- it's both consolation and reward!
Oh Hannah, I feel for you. The same thing happened to me when Jane was about 2 1/2. She locked herself in my parent's bathroom, actually, just the little room with the toilet in it. The lights were off and she couldn't reach the switch. My mom had a key, but it wouldn't work. We tried for about 30 minutes to get it open, all the while trying to prompt a 2 year old to unlock the door and turn on the light. I did resort to pushing cookies and a teeny tiny pen light under the door to keep her calm. Finally, we called in the locksmith and she was freed in a matter of minutes. She is now 6 1/2 and still remembers when she locked herself in Mimi's bathroom. I certainly will never forget either! Kudos to you for keeping calm!
okay, now i understand the title of that flickr photo. i guess it helps to read your blog!! ha. funny story.
seriously hannah, these are gorgeous. and i know they tasted like heaven!
Pumpkin bread is on my to-do list as well. Except I'll be adding chocolate chips.
(I'm pmsing right now. Everything must have chocolate in it.)
dang, i would've loved to have had one of these sweet thangs w/ our chili we had sunday. pillsbury canned rolls can't really compete.
Those cinnamon rolls are gorgeous -- odd to say for food, but they are. Ay, I need one with my coffee right now.
dude. those are gorgeous!! how on earth do you get them so perfectly shaped? must stop looking at the picture because they are making me sooooo hungry. :)
okay, new rules. you guys pack up everything and move here and will (wait for it) BUY YOU A FANCY IRON. and then all you have to do is use it on my stuff every so often. oh, and bring rolls. that's all. i know-- sweet deal, right?
Oh.my.goodness. Those rolls looks delicious. Did I ever tell you cinnamon rolls are my favorite? [along with banana bread, cupcakes, french toast...] Yummy! And I'm with Melissa, pack your bags, I'll give you my nice iron!
yummy, yummy!
hey, i'm coming into town to see kerry very soon and i have an extra iron. when we moved i thought i lost a brand new iron. didn't lose it, just poor packing. so i have two new irons and would love to donate one! your little girls MUST have those dresses!
I'd spend all my time baking and eating too if I could make cinnamon rolls like those. Yowza. I might not eat them with chili (avowed cornbread lover), but I'd eat them with absolutely everything else.
okay-you are in big trouble. big. I was just trying to figure out how to work in pretzels this week, (your fault) and now this? you are making me crazy! the only reason i haven't gained 10 lbs. is that it is still so warm here, I haven't been baking much-
you are so bad! (thanks for the dress love) and stop it! (not.)
Hoooo weee! Those are some fine cinnamon rolls, Hannah. Might you be willing to share the recipe? Please?
P.S. I love the idea of cinnamon rolls going hand-in-hand with chili. That's my kind of family tradition.
so, the "other molly" beat me to the punch...where's the recipe. c'mon now. share the love!
Oh, yum! Those cinnamon rolls look amazing. I'm trying not to bake so much sweet stuff at the moment, but this? This is so tempting... :)
I think I gained at least a pound from looking at these pictures! Gorgeous Hannah!
I can't believe someone stole your iron! Those rolls look delicious.
heellow
those cinnamon rolls sure do look yummy
i used to make them but the dough always became hard
yours on the other hand look delic!
can u plz send me the recipe!!
my email is sweet_seduction007@hotmail.com if u can
thanx alot
Um... I made some gluten-free vanilla cupcakes with dark chocolate buttercream today.
And your coats are purty. I don't own a coat. (Weird, I know, especially for Kansas.)
oh hannah. i can't wait to see you in that green coat. i'm so happy it can and will get worn! damn my broad shoulders. but at least i can still wear my fun orange one! :)
i'm lovin your coats--especially the blue one. such a great style.
the power of suggestion has sucked me in me more times then i like to admit!
how did i not know you bought something at pin me? you were totally holding out on me... geez, now you're in for it.
and i hope the pants thing worked out okay, call this week and let me know...? i may have given you poor advice.
I'm so glad the pretzels turned out well. A little complicated (oh, Martha) but very yummy!
That blue coat is perfect! It looks great on you with your dark hair.
your coats are wonderful, that blue one perfect! I know what you mean, I got the coat bug from Alicia too, and found a nice sand colored one to add to my winter wardrobe the other day. And I saw those pretzels over at Mayfly too and printed out the recipe, hoping for a moment to make them today. I need them ; )
oh my goodness! i love them both, :)* !!
ps, if your wanderlust gets you, come and visit us!! :))
love both of those coats! i would want either one myself.
these are both great. i love the colors. do you have trouble finding cool coats because you are so tiny? although perhaps vintage stuff is easier for you to find (i always find stuff that's way too petite).
shit...do you sleep?
I love those coats -- both of them! Gimme color and I'm happy.
I almost made some of those pretzels after seeing them on Mayfly, too! I will soon -- they look so yummy.
Oh, adorable coats. I can't even decide which one I like better. I'll just take a pretzel, and call it good. :-)
Yes, parenting is intimidating. My husband and I constantly come across things where we have to ask each other what to do. We're working on the "please" word right now. But, as my grandma used to say, "little kids, little problems; big kids, big problems." So I know there's plenty more to come...
hold on tight. the ride just seems to get wilder! you are right about a new set of challenges at 5. and the scarey but good bit! absolutely!
eek... I *so* know what you mean. It seems as if each month means the stakes get higher. Sounds as if you are taking the right approach - try to get things right when the stakes are still relatively small...
you've obviously never had one of my chocolate chip cookies, fresh out of the oven, if you think the stakes were small last night.
we're talking life or death here.
I hear you, Hannah, and I'm right there with you. Oy.
i was actually thinking about miss collette the other night while sam was running away from a very small and reasonable request. he was laughing. when do i make this into a big deal? all the ignoring and weasling... anyway, my friend megan says once she says something to her kids she doesn't change her mind. ever. and it seems to help. sadly, i am far too wishy washy for this kind of stance. le sigh. having to be more grown up than your kids kind of blows.
oolala...parenting....some days are rough, and I make mistakes, but other days just flow. it sounds like you're doing so well...i love the classic "cookie incident". I was the queen of Liars when I was little...hopefully, my children won't inherit that gene.
oh hannah, I am so there with you in spirit. i have a feeling that if all the blogging moms could actually meet up in one room, we'd solve a lot of the world's parenting delimas. the lying "tests" gets to me with my kids. they don't do it often, but have definitely tried it out on me.
I often wonder at the casual use of the phrase, "I want to have babies!" Too often I hear this coming from the mouths of people around me. Sometimes I think it would be good to replace it with something like:
"I am ready to take on a lifelong challenge many times greater than any I have ever known!"
or:
"I want to be in charge of raising the most dangerous thing on planet earth."
I think the world might be a slightly better place if we kept these in mind. Anyhow, I'm with you Huffmans. I know you can do it!
I just typed the word verification in as my name. I am getting OLD!
Next time Eliot can't have a cookie, can I come over and get it?
I tell myself that lying is a developmental thing that is part and parcel of kids working out who they are and how the world works and exactly what things they have control over and what things they don't.
I am the mother of a 5 yr old. I have to tell myself that!
p.s., in response to Melissa above, I change my mind all the time.
Every once in a while, I stick to my guns, but more often than not, I respond to reasonableness on my kid's part and think of it that way rather than totally giving in.
(Again, I have to tell myself this stuff or else I will just hide under my covers and weep.)
(heh)
Hannah
I so know what you're going through! And while I have to agree with amy h. and the "little kids, little problems. . " quote. . . it still terrifies me thinking about all that is yet to come! Egads!
Chloe went through a phase of fibbing at age four and now she's 5.5 and just tells elaborate stories to get me going. Those letters will come. Don't feel pressure to have him "get" them right away!
I loved when my boys got interested in writing the alphabet...it does pull on my heart-strings a little, knowing I have to let them go to another chapter in their life. My 11yr old still has a hard time with the truth...not fun.
you are so right with
what you say...
the challenges change
but with them come
some sweet advantages
as well...
it will all balance out...
(mine are eleven and practically
seven)
glad to have you back. love your photos. makes me miss the beach myself.
from all the party goer's posts, sounds like everyone had a great time celebrating your family coming through town. Isn't it wonderful to meet bloggers in person, surreal even. Welcome back!
It looks like you had a great time! I get more than a little enthralled when we're near the ocean, too. Same thing with mountains...
can i use you as a reference? you know... for general type things. or if'n i ever get a real job. thanks.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Good luck with the real-life adjustment period. :)
And Arlo's feet! Cuuute!
welcome home! looks like a wonderful time. and arlo looks like the most chilled out baby! cutest pix. loved looking at them.
so glad you & david (&arlo) were able to get away. vacation is always worth every penny, i think. can't wait to hear more about it!
welcome back! glad you had a good time--your pix are great. arlo is so so so so sweet.
gorgeous pics. it is quite a lovely city, isn't it? and they are quite a lovely (talented, generous, funny, fashionable, welcoming...) group of ladies aren't they? glad you had a wonderful time. knew you would ;)
Hannah! I think we were on the same flight back from Portland on Tuesday. I'm serious. As I got off the plane, I saw a woman who I thought at the time reminded me of you, holding a chubby, cute baby. In fact, I hosted "Knitting Group" that night and meant to tell the others who knew you that I could have sworn I saw you. So, was it you? Direct flight from Portland to KC on a god-awful-y early flight?
oooh...sounds like SUCH a good time was had by all, including sweet baby cheeks Arlo. So, THIS Portland is next on your list, right? RIGHT? ;)
I should have screamed!! but the baby and all. . .so I just started jumping-I was jumping, right?
you were jumping.
i love those chubby baby feet-xx. i love portland too. such a great city.
that rocker is hilarious! seriously - that has to be the definition of 'laid back' - and he sounds so patronizing as he explains it! :)
LOVE the cuff. Mr. Little Rocker would get along nicely with Big J. [Btw, Big J has the same tshirt and shoes!] Cannot wait to see you!
one of my favs is still his "you know who's not strong? sarah & collette."
Rockin' and rollin' - oh my god, that killed me. I want to talk like Eliot. I'm going to work on that.
Could Elliot give me some destress management skills, please?
he is adorable!
whoa--two molly's posting, thought i'd already posted or something....
anyhoo--love the cuff. love that picture of your laid back little boy. rockin' and rollin'--i need a little of that in my day.
Rock on, little dude. And your mom's goodies rock too.
The world needs more cuffs and attitudes like Eliot's! Rock and roll!
that cuff
is gorgeous
and
i heart
your
rockin'
n
rollin'
little e.
good luck
on his
first day!
sometimes eliot & i get out our guitars and sit on the couch and rock & roll. it's just what us guys do.
first of all, what a gorgeous cuff, Lisa is a master of trims (using them and picking them out!). Your guys sounds like he's got all the right priorities in all the right places, just rockin and rolling is great! Love that!
okay that rockin' and rollin' comment is just too much! just laughed out loud and quoted that conversation to my husband. thanks for that!
best...arc
What a perfect cuff for a Huff! :)
And Eliot -- what a sweetie he is! :) Hope he's having fun in school! Henry goes back tomorrow!
lovely cuff.
eliot is rad. nuf sed.

a special note: this is directly below where his sister was napping. she woke up thinking the world was crashing down around her.
Ok, one more reason the drum set will stay at grandpa's house! lol
Dude! Nice drum set.
Rock out, man. Stay cool.
Later.
paul will be swooning with jealousy when he sees this.
my 6 yo is SO jealous. she's been asking for drums for 2 years - ever since she snuck up on the stage at her uncle's wedding and banged her heart out - in her very froofy pink dress. it was awesome - but she's never let us hear the end of it!
eliot - have you ever considered being part of the mill creek band? we could use another drummer like you! of course you'd have to shave your head...which seems to be the band's uniform right now. on second thought...
SO cute. Maybe our boys could start a shaggy hair boy band. I think Big J would be a great lead singer [a big ham] and Baby J could be the shy bass player. =)
hee hee!
:)
Hannah you just gave my boy Josiah a new obsession: watching the Elliot video! It's cool watching other peoples kids play instruments, it makes my experience seem so normal.
I've gotta go, I'm being summoned to band practice now, your video woke up the musical beast in my boy!
nice work, eliot. r&r, man.
Yeeeeeeeeah! Rock it, Eliot.
too too funny,
that literally made me laugh out loud
with his "go-craziness" heehee
too cool!
:)
I LOVE it! He is too cool for school....
(oh, and I loved hearing your voice in there, too! it's hannah!!!)
oh boy, that took me back -- I grew up with 2 brothers that played the drums down in the basement.
Rock on, Eliot!
yeah, man. crazy's the way to do it!
awesome. I kind of feel for his sister though. That can't be a good way to wake up!
dude, get that little guy a record contract.
Ah, he's so rad! The shaggy hair + ripped jeans = rockstah! :)
i can't stand it ... how wonderful is this?!?!
