Happy Birthday! I happened upon your blog through Amys, I love it! Of course I'm always excited to see someone from KC! We just moved to Utah after living there forever! I miss it :) Anyhoo...love your photos and your blog! Have a good weekend!
i never knew it could be this good. catherine ledner is a genius. thanks john for the link, it made my day. go browse animal prints now. right now. i promise. it will be good.
sometimes i wish i was a foodie, but i know that i am not. i do love food, and that really is good enough for me. a few months ago i finally subscribed to gourmet because of all the lovely peeks jen kept teasing us with on her blog. and i realized yesterday that even though the recipes sound impossibly delicious, its the photos that drive me crazy. i told david last night i want to shoot for gourmet someday. how fantastic would that be? in this months issue there is a spread by quentin bacon that i just can't stop looking at. and when i'm not looking at it, i'm thinking about it. i recently had the chance to pick the brain of a really talented photographer (who happens to be my cousin!) and we spent a lot of time talking about style, and figuring out style, emulating photographers you like. well mr. bacon, you've made my list.
yeah, i want to live in magazines like that. oh and after i took one look at those shots on your flickr i went straight and subscribed. they should give you commission.
From the small peek of his photography, it seems you both capture your subjects on the edge of a luminescent focal point, be it the reflected light in this water, or the filtered light floating in the corners of your home. You and Mr. Bacon are very enviably talented- I would be surprised if your dreams didn't come true.
Oh yes I SO agree about the photography in Gourmet. I like the recipes too. I keep wondering if I should subscribe as it would take around 6 weeks to get here for each issue but it is lovely posts like yours that are pushing me towards this :)
I bought that issue over the weekend on a whim. Wow! I agree--I keep going back to that article. I haven't read it, but I've looked at the photos many, many times. They make me yearn for long-past summer vacations, back when work wasn't pressing and I had no one to worry about other than myself.
I had a look at his website - just gorgeous. I loved a couple of the shots so much I even emailed to see if he sold prints. I must be embarassing myself - no response!
some of my favorites from martha's s t i l l week. it has been a good week of practicing still life shots. which sometimes can be impossible to get right. i know, i take a lot of them. most of my contributions were film shots that i hadn't gotten to yet because my digital shots were mostly crap. i might try again this afternoon while my pizza dough is rising. we'll see. hope thursday is treating you real nice.
(sorry that is hard to read, bigger might help) hello everyone! the summer life update to the shop is up, please go take a look. i am doing things a bit differently this time around, prints will be made to order. i have marked all prints as a quantity of one, but am allowing overselling. if you place an order, please allow about a week for printing and shipping. i will notify you when your items are ready to ship. what is left of the 4x6 print sets in the shop are also on sale. yay!
ok, business out of the way. how fun was friday??? so much fun. i had a wonderful time, the absolute best part of the whole evening was seeing all the friends and family that came out to see the show and support me. thank you everyone who found time to come. and if you came by and didn't say hello, i'm saying hello now. hi! i had fun asking people which prints were their favorites and why. i also had a lot of fun answering the question, "are these your photographs?", why yes, yes they are. ooooh la lah.
I was by and saw your photos. I was going to say hello, but you were very popular, and I am shy. For the record, I liked the photo of the thrift store/ flea market window and the one of the kitchen sink. All were very good!!
it's here! well almost. remember the polaroid project i was asked to contribute to? well, jenifer worked her tail off (she's pretty awesome) and now it is available for pre-order. go get one. you know you want to.
i did the worst sewing of my life yesterday. seriously the worst. it was a combination of factors really. i hadn't been at the machine in such a long time, and my list of things to do was driving me batty. and so i started speed sewing. not a good idea. add to that something new (fold over elastic) and my "oh i'll just trace something" pattern making. i could tell it was bad even as i was sewing. i had that whole just push through (speed up) and get it done panic thing going on. like when i eat oklahoma joe's french fries, i just cant stop even though i know i should and i am starting to feel kind of sick. yeah. it was like that. it was so bad that i hemmed a pair of my pants (the ones up there) afterwards just to make me feel better. hemming! so anyway. i should listen to my inner self and not try to cram even more into an already bursting at the seams week. on a more pleasant note, my pants look quite nice. i am wearing them today with sandals and not dragging them all over the floor. yay me!
Seriously! Dude, don't sweat it. I can't hardly sew at all, just to do some minor crafting. I have to get my hemming done for me. How's that for infantile?
I like your description and analogy -I know exactly what you mean. and in your brain you know what is happening but your body just doesn't let you stop.
