this is a boy who takes a fedora camping. this is a boy who promised to find a piece of gold for his sister to make her feel better because she didn't get to go camping. this is a sweet boy.
eliot was bitten on the finger by a massasagua rattlesnake sunday morning while camping. after many many doctors, many doses of antivenin, we are home safe again. he is doing well. his body systems are good, now we are dealing with the long process of healing his finger. time will tell if and how badly the venom damaged his sub-tissues, (if you feel up to it, you can click here and here to see photos of his finger) we of course are hoping that it did not, but even if it did, we are happy to have eliot back at home with us. thank you kind friends for all your support and prayers and help. we love you greatly and feel your love in return. eliot says he is feeling better and doesn't want you to think his arm is broken just because he is wearing a sling. this boy. i love this boy.
ok, hannah. I need details like: where was he camping? and was he poking at it or anything? how did you know it was a rattlesnake? did somebody catch/kill it?
(you can email me if you have time.)
we're campers, you know, and this is my secret fear. that something like this will happen to my littles.
dear hannah, we are strangers to one another, but i enjoy your photos immensely and i happened to see your flickr posting and in turn your blog posting ... i just want to wish your boy the best and a swift and full recovery. best to you & yours.
I've been reading your blog since before Arlo was born. I'm thinking this is a good time to de-lurk. We are campers, too. Please share the details if you can. I think it would help lots of people. So, a huge medal to Eliot for courage! Best to you all.
DeLurking to say. Oh my. Thank goodness he is on the mend. I wish your boy a speedy recovery and many exciting stories to pass on regarding his snake bit once he has healed.
i just can't stop thinking how scary this must have been for him and for you. does he have any other symptoms now besides a humongous finger?! poor baby. kisses.
delurking to say OMG. we homestead (which is basically camping EVERY DAY until the house is built) and I too would like to know more details--- this is a major fear of mine for my 3 yr old... I hope he heals well and quickly!
Hannah, I don't know why it takes a photo of a scarily swollen finger to make me comment (seeing as I swoon over all of your lovely posts but almost never say a word). Glad to hear your boy is doing better.
hoping this morning and the rest of today are the best so far since the bite. you must be exhausted, all of you. i am thinking of you all. hang in there!
That must have been such an awful experience for you all and his poor little finger looks so painful! I am so glad he is ok and I hope his finger is on the mend. Take care.
Dear Eliot, I am very sorry about your finger, I really like your hat it is very cool,I hope you feel better soon. Lots of love, Louis (aged 8 in the uk)
i have a little secret. i've been doing custom prints. i know. scandalous right? shocking. actually it has been delightful. shari started it, and then i did two for shanna. well actually sally started it, when she asked me to make 8x10's for her after i came to visit. and i thought to myself, i can't do that. what if my print looks like crap that big? and then i heard david in my brain saying, what's the big deal? just do it. so i did. and it was fun. then i made a big family print for melissa. and that was even more fun, because it was a surprise. and it was really really hard to keep my mouth shut until it showed up at her house. anyway all that to say, just ask. anything in my film set (with the obvious exceptions of pictures of the huffsters) i can print, in just about any size. seriously. give me time to track down the negative (i just bought binders and plan on organizing soon) and we can work out price. size. mat. glossy. whatever. just ask.
Hannah, I've been enjoying your blog and work for a while now. This is my first comment. I am going to order a print from you as soon as I can decide which one! Heather
saturday was a polaroid day. i got my copy of the for the love of light book in the mail. it is so very good. thank you jen for all your hard work. go buy one. you won't regret it. aaaaand my friend kerry found a polaroid colorpack land camera at a garage sale for $2. then she gave it to me. thank you kerry. i can't wait to get started with pack film. so now my head is filled with polaroid sugar plums. if that is possible. speaking of plums, my friend vikkie had a birthday and we celebrated with smores and cherry pie. not at the same time of course. tomorrow or wednesday i plan on talking business. but it should be good talk, i promise.
I got my book today, such loveliness...and I love the pack film. I have a land camera...try and get your hands on some fuji film, it does nice colors. love peeling the pieces apart!
um, i feel pretty much the same. funny how that works, isn't it? life has been pretty full lately. which is good and bad, full of both i guess. yesterday i ate three peaches in a row. i put that firmly in the good category. also in that category goes eating frozen custard and discussing life and god with four of my favorite women. and seeing a friend, home from sudan for nine days, ever so briefly. good. summer rain. good. radishes with salt. very good. so actually, maybe there isn't so much bad after all. and i love food. and summer. are you loving summer?
Huh, yeah, now that I think of it, I am hveing a pretty good summer too. Funny how when you think there are bad's happening, you think back and most things are really goods?
i'll be joining you at 32 in just under a month. I remember when i was little, thinking my mum at that age seemed so old. i wonder if she still felt 16 sometimes like i do?!
